Therapy Helps People.

At Terrazas Counseling & Consulting, we provide psychotherapy and counseling services to support individuals facing a variety of mental health challenges. Our approach is collaborative and person-centered, recognizing that each person is the expert in their own life. We believe that the answers to many of life’s challenges already exist within you, and our role is to help you uncover them in a supportive and empowering way.

We take a trauma-informed approach, focusing on what has happened to you rather than what is wrong with you. Together, we explore your upbringing, childhood experiences, cultural influences, and learned beliefs to better understand how they shape your worldview today. Our sessions are conducted in a compassionate, nonjudgmental, and safe space where you are always in control of your healing journey.

We currently work with adults, teens, and families, helping them navigate a wide range of challenges, including:

Therapeutic Approaches We Use:

At Terrazas Counseling & Consulting, we integrate various evidence-based therapies tailored to meet your unique needs. Below are some of the approaches we use in our practice:

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a structured therapy that helps individuals process and heal from traumatic memories. By using guided eye movements, EMDR allows the brain to reprocess distressing experiences, reducing their emotional intensity and helping individuals move forward.
  • Talk Therapy
Also known as psychotherapy, talk therapy provides a supportive space for individuals to explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Through open conversation with a trained therapist, clients gain insights, develop coping strategies, and work toward emotional well-being.
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
DBT is a skills-based therapy designed to help individuals manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and develop mindfulness. It is especially helpful for those struggling with emotional regulation, self-harm, or impulsive behaviors.
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)
MBCT combines cognitive therapy techniques with mindfulness practices to help individuals break negative thought patterns. It is particularly effective in preventing relapse in depression and reducing anxiety by fostering present-moment awareness.
  • Positive Psychology
This therapeutic approach focuses on enhancing well-being by identifying and building on an individual’s strengths, resilience, and positive emotions. Positive psychology helps clients cultivate gratitude, optimism, and a fulfilling life.
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI)
MI is a collaborative, goal-oriented approach that helps individuals overcome ambivalence and build motivation for change. It is especially useful for those struggling with behavioral changes related to health, substance use, or personal growth.
  • Person-Centered Therapy
This approach emphasizes empathy, unconditional support, and self-exploration. Clients are encouraged to take the lead in their healing journey while the therapist provides a nonjudgmental and accepting space for growth.
  • Trauma-Informed Care
A trauma-informed approach shifts the focus from “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?” It recognizes the impact of trauma on an individual’s mental health and ensures therapy is conducted in a safe, empowering, and supportive environment.
  • Culturally Sensitive Approaches
A trauma-informed approach shifts the focus from “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?” It recognizes the impact of trauma on an individual’s mental health and ensures therapy is conducted in a safe, empowering, and supportive environment.

Each of these approaches is designed to help individuals heal, grow, and regain control over their lives. If you’re interested in learning more or finding the right approach for you, we’re here to help.
